Inverted Nipple Surgery

Inverted nipples are nipples that pull in inwards, rather than distending outwards. In most cases, having an inverted nipple won’t affect your health. However, if you wish to change the look and revert your nipples for aesthetic reasons, nipple correction surgery is attainable. Dr. Zoran is a skilled cosmetic surgeon in Fort Lauderdale who can correct cases of inverted nipples, bringing self-confidence back into your life.

What Causes Inverted Nipples?

Nipple inversion, nipple retraction, or invaginated nipples can be present at birth (congenital) or they can occur as a result of disease or trauma. Any inflammation or scarring of the tissue behind the areola, even in the case of short milk ducts, can cause nipples to pull inwards.

Fixing an Inverted Nipple

As far as nipple correction surgery goes, there are two different types of surgeries: one being the technique that preserves the milk ducts, and the technique that does not.

This type of cosmetic surgery involves releasing the scar tissue or shortened milk ducts. An incision is made at the base of the nipple to release the bound tissues and shortened ducts. Skin flaps are placed beneath the nipple to help it maintain the desired, outward-protruding position.

The procedure typically takes 30 minutes to 1 hour per nipple, under local anesthesia at our AAAA-certified cosmetic surgery center in Fort Lauderdale.

How Long Does It Take for Inverted Nipple Surgery to Heal?

This procedure is short and will allow patients to return home within just a few hours of the operation. In the days following your procedure, nipples will be swollen and tender. However, nipple correction surgery permits patients to return to work the following day after surgery.

Patients can resume their regular exercise technique within about one week of surgery.
