CORRECTIVE NOSE SURGERY

This very rare birth deformity of the nose was a reason for a 16-year-old boy to come to our Fort Lauderdale plastic surgery clinic for evaluation and consult. He had 2 previous attempts of reconstruction by another surgeon but was not satisfied with outcome. He wanted a more visible nose improvement.

Detailed clinical evaluation confirmed a rare nose cleft, a birth deformity which creates deformity of nose tip cartilage  and notching of the nasal rim. We have discussed nose corrective surgery including placement of small cartilage graft taken from his ear.

Surgery was performed in general anesthesia in hospital. A small piace of cartilage was taken from left ear and placed along nostril rim to correct notching. A skin flap was created inside of the nose and advanced to correct skin notching and accommodate cartilage graft. Patient was discharged home after surgery.

Patient condition before surgery with visible notching of the left nostril and 1 year after corrective nose surgery is presented. Notice improvement of the nostril rim and symmetry of the nose after correction.
