BLEPHAROPLASTY – EYELID SURGERY
A 75-year-old very socially active Fort Lauderdale plastic surgery patient wanted correction of the eyelids. Large bags under his eyes make him look tired and sad which is quite opposite to his bubbly nature and significant entertainment skills.
During the pre-operative evaluation in our Ft. Lauderdale cosmetic surgery center we found that patient has moderate degree of upper eyelid ptosis (his upper eyelids are hanging lower and partially obstruct visual field. Eyelid ptosis is a condition frequently seen in this age group and is called senile ptosis (left). Correction of ptosis is surgical procedure frequently performed together with upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery and ptosis repair). However, this particular patient refused ptosis correction but decided to have an upper eyelid surgery in addition to lower blepharoplasty.
In local anesthesia we performed minimal removal of skin from upper eyelids in the areas close to the nose and removed a small fat compartment. In the lower eyelid we have removed significant amount of fat and a minimal amount of skin. His lower eyelids where additionally tightened by means canthopexy to avoid postoperative lower lid leg and/or ectropion.
Patient is shown before upper and lower eyelid surgery (left) and 6 months after upper and lower blepharoplasty with canthopexy (right).
