UPPER BLEPHAROPLASTY – EYELID
Droopy upper eyelids can create a significant obstruction of visual field. This 74-year-old Canadian came to our office for a consult regarding upper blepharoplasty. She claimed that heavy folds of upper eyelid skin affect her side vision to the point that she is afraid of driving.
After clinical evaluation of function and appearance of her upper, lower eyelids, and eye muscles was completed we found that heavy upper eyelid skin folds were the only reason for visual field obstruction. We suggested upper eyelid surgery (upper blepharoplasty).
Surgery was done in local anesthesia in our plastic surgery center in Fort Lauderdale. A very conservative removal of skin, muscle and fat from upper eyelid was performed. Despite of mild swelling and bruising around the eyes patient was able to drive next day after surgery.
Patient is shown before eyelid surgery on the left and 3 months after upper blepharoplasty on the right.
