MALE BREAST SURGERY - GYNECOMASTIA 204

Enlargement of the male breast is frequently seen in middle aged men. This condition, otherwise known as gynecomastia, can be successfully treated with a simple surgical procedure such as liposuction or a direct excision of breast tissue.

This 48-year-old Fort Lauderdale plastic surgery patient underwent breast reduction for gynecomastia using liposuction technique. Using a small cannula breast tissue (mostly fat) was mechanically broken and then aspirated using vacuum suction. Small incisions (less than 1 cm) are placed in the breast creases or around areola. Surgery is usually done in general anesthesia. Patient is encouraged to wear compressive custom made garment for 2-3 weeks after surgery. This patient returned to work 4 days after procedure.

On the left patient is shown before gynecomastia surgery; on the right same patient is shown 4 months after male breast reduction surgery for gynecomastia. Patient had liposuction of abdomen and flanks in the same surgery.
