FACIAL FAT GRAFTS CASE #342

This international patient complained of tired, sad look and small cheeks. She wanted “something done to her cheeks but not cheek implants”. After thorough clinical evaluation in out Ft. Lauderdale plastic surgery center we discussed cheek augmentation with fat grafts. She had small cheeks and mid-face and needed augmentation of that area to achieve fuller, youthful face. Although combination of cheek implants and fat grafts was my suggestion, we settled for fat graft augmentation only. Patient was made aware that in her case, considering the amount of fat grafts she needed to achieve desired shape and cheek size, she will need 2-3 stages of fat grafting 3-6 months apart.

Surgery was done in local anesthesia. A total of 70 ml of fat was removed from her right thigh and prepared into fat grafts (40 ml fat grafts). Using small i mm cannula 20 ml. of fat was injected into each cheek and around eyes and brows.

Patient is shown before surgery notice flat, small, saggy looking cheeks; left side of her face (cheek) is visibly smaller. Her photo 3 months after surgery shows significant improvement in size of both cheeks. Left side is still smaller and will need further enlargement with fat grafts. We usually wait 3-6 months between fat grafts placement.
