RHINOPLASTY – NOSE SURGERY

Nose-shaping surgery is frequently done in an early age; in girls this surgery can safely be done after age of 14 while in boys it is usually 2-3 years later. Surgery done this early will not interfere with further growth of face. This 18 year-old patient had a “nose job” in mind for 4-5 years before she came to our Fort Lauderdale plastic surgery center for consultation.

After a thorough clinical evaluation of her nose both inside (to evaluate breathing function) and outside (appearance) we proposed external rhinoplasty (nose shaping surgery with direct exposure of nose structures) and septoplasty (correction of deviated nasal septum) to correct her moderate nasal obstruction (breathing problem due to diminished  air passage).

Surgery of this kind is usually done in general anesthesia in our office based surgery center in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. Correction of deviated septum was done first followed by shaping of the nose tip, removal of the nose hump and narrowing of the nose walls. Splints were placed inside and outside of the nose. Patient was discharged home 1 hour after surgery. Splints from inside of the nose were removed next day, external splint and a few nose sutures were removed 7 days after surgery.

Patient is shown before nose shaping surgery and correction of nasal obstruction due to deviated septum and 2 years later. Notice improvement of the nose hump and bulky, square nose tip. Her breathing has improved significantly. “Nobody is complaining of my snoring”.
