BREAST RECONSTRUCTION 153

This 19-year-old out-of-town plastic surgery patient came to our Fort Lauderdale plastic surgery office for a consult regarding corrective breast surgery. She wanted her small, deformed breasts corrected.

Thorough clinical evaluation in our plastic surgery center demonstrated that patient had breast deformity known as a tubular breasts. This deformity is characterized with small, narrow, sometimes sausage-like breasts with large protruding areola. Breasts are usually unequal size.

Her surgery was performed in one stage in general anesthesia. Left, smaller breast was reshaped and enlarged with silicone implant. Larger, right breast was reshaped, lifted and a smaller silicone breast implant was placed underneath the muscle.

Images on the left demonstrate breast appearance before breast reconstruction; images on the right show patient early postoperative results 6 weeks after breast reconstructive surgery. Patient like this may require additional breast surgeries during their lifetime in particular after pregnancy and breast feeding.
