INVERTED AND RETRACTED NIPPLE 124
A 23-year-old plastic surgery patient from Boca Raton came to our office for consultation regarding retracted breast nipple. She had this condition since her early teen years only on left side. Her rigfht nipple was always normal.
When we evaluated her in our Fort Lauderdale plastic surgery office she demonstrated severe nipple retraction (inverted nipple). This condition happens due abnormal development of milk ducts which are short which prevents nipple erection during stimulation or breast feeding. We discussed surgical management of this condition by means of correction of inverted nipple.
Surgery was performed in local anesthesia in our office based plastic surgery center. Short ducts were cut free from breast gland and dome of the nipple was filled with tissue borrowed from the nipple skin.
Images show patient before surgery for retracted nipple (left) and 5 months after correction of inverted nipple (right). Notice small scars on the side of the nipple; these are areas where skin flaps were borrowed to create new nipple; they will continue to improve.
