BLEPHAROPLASTY

A 61 year old Fort Lauderdale plastic surgery patient wanted improvement of her upper and lower eyelids. She has noticed that she is spending more and more time putting her make up in the morning. Heavy upper eyelids were obstructing her visual field; this was confirmed with examination by her eye doctor.

Our preoperative evaluation revealed full, droopy upper eyelids with skin hanging over eyelashes. She also demonstrated fullness of the lower eyelids  with heavy bags underneath the eyelid and a deep groove (tear trough) separating eyelid from the cheek (left).

Her surgery was performed in local anesthesia and included removal of upper eyelids skin as well as small fat pads which created folds close to her nose. Lower eyelid surgery included partial removal of the fat through an incision inside the eyelid (transconjuctival blepharoplasty). Instead of being discarded the fat from lower eyelid was distributed over the cheek bone underneath the tear trough to diminish the groove and improve junction between cheek and eyelid (right)

Patient is shown before (left) and 9 months after upper and lower eyelid surgery (upper and lower blepharoplasty) on the right. Patient also had a Botox Cosmetic to lift her brows and diminish heavy wrinkles between her brows and above the nose. She also had an intermediate strength chemical peel, TCA peel, to treat fine wrinkles around the eyes and improve lower eyelid skin tone and discoloration (depigmentation).
