BLEPHAROPLASTY – EYELID SURGERY

A 64-year-old cosmetic surgery patient from Miami area presents to our office for consultation about eyelid surgery. She is concerned about heaviness of upper eyelids and bulging around lower eyelids.

Evaluation in our cosmetic surgery center in Fort Lauderdale revealed moderate redundancy of skin and fat in upper eyelids (upper blepharochalasia).  Protruding fat compartments in the lower eyelids (all 3 of them) created a bulge in the upper portion of the lower eyelid and heightened the visibility of the groove separating lower eyelids from the cheek called tear trough or naso-jugal groove.

We discussed upper and lower blepharoplasty surgery with conservative removal of skin and fat tissue. This also included transposition of some of the lower eyelid fat underneath the tear trough to decrease its depth and visibility.

Her surgery was performed in our office based surgery center in twilight anesthesia run by an anesthesiologist. Surgery was performed as planned and patient was discharged home 1 hour after surgery. Her recovery was uneventful.

Patient is shown before upper and lower eyelid surgery left and 6 months after upper and lower blepharoplasty right. Notice improvement in upper and lower eyelids. Post-eyelid surgery scars are well hidden in eyelid creases; portion of the lower eyelid surgery was done through the incision placed inside of the eyelid (transconjuctival blepharoplasty).
