WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU “LIFT”

Remember the days when going bra-less was liberating and sexy? Now, something so effortless may spark insecurities and feelings of living a real life nightmare. Exaggeration much? Perhaps. But there is rhyme to the reason! As many women age or due to genetics, they may experience slow eventual sagging of the breast which can create droopy and unattractive looking breasts. Breast lifts can 100% remedy this deformity.

A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is perky and youthful. As stated, a woman’s breasts often change over time, losing their youthful shape and firmness. These changes and loss of skin elasticity can result from pregnancy, breast feeding, aging, gravity, weight fluctuations, and heredity.

Breast lift surgery (mastopexy) is a procedure that tightens the skin and lifts the nipple and areola to produce a more youthful contour. Breast lift can be done with or without implants simply dependent on the patient’s specific aesthetic and desires.

“When breast lift is done in small breasts result is long lasting and there is no need for augmentation,” states Fort Lauderdale’s expert plastic surgeon Dr. Zoran Potparic. “However, larger breasts
with a lot of tissue will descend due to gravity some time after surgery and upper pole of the breast is going to become flat as before lift. For that reason, addition of small implant will help preserve fullness of the upper pole. Patient needs to understand that with breast lifting, she will lose one half to one cup size depending on the degree pf ptosis (sagging). Very large, heavy breasts do not do well with lifting and for that reason breast reduction is a better procedure which also creates lifting but reduces breast size and provides long lasting results.”

Further educating, Dr. Potparic says “Disproportionately large areolas or asymmetric size of areolas are frequently dominant and/or only reason for breast lifting. Symmetry can be achieved with reduction of larger or both areolas depending on the particular needs and preferences of the patient. This type of lift can be achieved with circumareolar (also known as “doughnut”) incision and it does not have much power of lifting. In our practice, the most frequently used incision is the vertical lift which leaves a lollipop shaped scar that is very well hidden underneath the lower portion of the breast.”

If enlargement of the areola is a concern, the areola can be reduced in size during the breast lift operation. Dr. Zoran Potparic performs a variety of breast lift procedures and will tailor your operation to best suit your specific needs. During your consultation with Dr. Potparic, he will discuss with you all of your options so that you can make the best decision possible!
