Custom Implants
Who is a candidate for facial implants? If you feel your chin, cheekbones or other areas of your face are inadequate in shape or size; facial implants can refine your appearance. A more aesthetic facial silhouette and profile can be achieved by putting these areas into balance with other facial features.
How is it done? Facial implants are pre-formed, solid, silicone or Gore Tex™ “parts” that are FDA approved. Facial implant incisions are individualized and are often dependent upon whether other procedures are being done simultaneously. Chin implants can be inserted through the mouth, or through an incision made under the chin. Cheek implants can be inserted through a linear incision fashioned under the lower eyelid lashes, in front of the ears, or through hidden incisions in the mouth.
Facial implants are done in our surgery center using local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. The surgery for implant only takes one hour and your stay in the recovery room will be approximately one hour.
Recuperation
After you are stable, you will be released into the care of a responsible adult. We recommend you have someone stay with you for the first 24 hours. You may experience mild discomfort which can be controlled with oral medication. Most of our patients are up and around the evening of surgery. Sutures are removed 5 to 7 days after surgery and you can anticipate returning to work or school within the week. Exercise can safely be resumed 3 weeks following surgery.
Other Options Facial implants are typically used in conjunction with nose reshaping, facelifts, necklifts and eyelift surgeries.
